AL East standings

Because the Yankees don't play their opener until tomorrow, they can't be in first place tomorrow morning.
DON'T LET US WIN TONIGHT!   written with Allan Wood.  Yes, it's the 10th anniversary of the 2004 Red Sox....

This is the time when fans can be the most optimistic. After all, the Sox haven't lost a game yet. As Dan Shaughnessy wrote it today's Globe: "Sometimes it feels as though Boston could field two teams in the American League East and earn two playoff spots, taking first place and a wild card."
We didn't have to wait too long. Shane Victorino IS on the DL now, and for the next 14 days.  Jackie Bradley Jr. will be starting in today's game.
As we wait to see how Shane Victorino's hamstring is, the 2014 Opening Day roster for the Red Sox, as they prepare to defend their title as reigning World Champions, is as follows:

PITCHERS (12): Burke Badenhop, Clay Buchholz, Chris Capuano, Felix Doubront, John Lackey, Jon Lester, Andrew Miller, Edward Mujica, Jake Peavy, Junichi Tazawa, Koji Uehara, and Brandon Workman.
CATCHERS (2): A.J. Pierzynski and David Ross.

INFIELDERS (6): Xander Bogaerts, Jonathan Herrera, Will Middlebrooks, Mike Napoli, David Ortiz, and Dustin Pedroia.

OUTFIELDERS (5): Mike Carp, Jonny Gomes, Daniel Nava, Grady Sizemore, and Shane Victorino.
